Gray zone operations have emerged as a prominent type of threat to U.S. and allied security interests by our adversaries across a range of unconventional battle spaces, such as the economic and financial, space, and cyber domains.
PSSI Washington selectively takes on special projects, when evidence points to planned or occurring security-related abuses in areas of its competence. Some of these initiatives include: (1) identifying Chinese enterprises constructing and militarizing its illegal islands in the South China Sea; (2) highlighting illicit Russian efforts to secure Ukrainian offshore hydrocarbon resources in the Black Sea; (3) Beijing’s and Moscow’s competition for influence and maritime routes in the Arctic; (4) and the quest for Russia’ media and information dominance in the western Balkan and certain Central and East European nations, including the Czech Republic.
